To live and work in the Australian Outback, you need to possess certain qualities. Working on a farm is physically demanding, and you should be prepared for long working days, depending on the job. This means you must be flexible, hardworking, and willing to put in the effort.

Additionally, you’ll be living in a remote area, which means limited access to communication with the outside world. Adapting to the local culture is also important. Outback employers value a well-groomed appearance—excessive piercings or long hair (for men) may not be appreciated. Table manners and speaking English are also essential. Avoid speaking Dutch in front of your employer, as this might be perceived as disinterest or disrespect. By keeping these things in mind, you’ll increase your chances of landing a great job and making the most of your adventure!

Eligibility Requirements
To participate in the program, you must meet the following criteria:

✔ You are between 18 and 30 years old at the time of departure.
✔ You have a good command of the English language.
✔ You hold a valid driver’s license (car/motorbike).
✔ You are social and open-minded.
✔ You are hardworking and physically fit.
✔ You are enthusiastic and independent.
✔ You are willing to live and work in a remote area

The program starts every Thursday!

Arrival in Brisbane
Make sure you land in Brisbane on Thursday morning, as a partner organization representative will be there to pick you up from the airport. If you arrive in the afternoon, you’ll need to arrange your own transportation to YHA Hostel in Brisbane, where you’ll spend your first night in a shared room (meals not included).

Friday – Monday: Travel to Rainbow Beach
From Friday to Monday, you’ll travel by Greyhound bus to Rainbow Beach (transfer included). These first few days are meant for relaxing and adjusting to your new environment. So enjoy this stunning location!

Monday: Transfer to Spring Brook Farm
On Monday, you’ll take a bus from Rainbow Beach to Spring Brook Farm. Here, you’ll handle essential administrative tasks such as setting up your bank account and discussing your job opportunities.

Monday – Friday: 5-Day Farm Training
Your 5-day training program begins immediately! This includes:
✔ Accommodation & meals
✔ Learning essential farm skills
✔ Preparing for your job placement

Job Placement & Work Duration
After training, you’ll be ready for your first job! You’ll need to cover your own transportation to your employer, but don’t worry, we’ll guide you on the best way to get there.

Job Duration: Most jobs last 2 to 3 months, but this can vary:
If work runs out, you’ll be assigned a new job by our partner organization.
If you love your job, you may stay longer, as long as there’s work available.

Salary & Earnings
Your earnings depend on your age and employer, but you can expect to make:
✔ $450 – $1,200 AUD per week (net income) if you’re 20 years or older.
✔ If you’re 18 years old, you receive 80% of the full wage.
✔ If you’re 19 years old, you receive 90% of the full wage.
✔ Many employers pay 18- and 19-year-olds the full rate of a 20-year-old.

Before starting your adventure with one of our Australian employers, you’ll join a hands-on training alongside other young travelers from all over the world. Not only will you gain essential farm skills, but you’ll also make friends with fellow backpackers right from the start!

During this 5-day training, you’ll learn everything you need to know about farm work, including:
Sheep shearing, Cattle mustering, Horse riding & care, Motorbike riding, Driving a tractor, Fixing fences, Chopping trees with a chainsaw … and much more!
