Famke in Animation
After a previous experience, I decided to go for it again. This time through Get Abroad, back to working abroad and doing the job that suits me perfectly.
I’m currently working at Alexander Beach Hotel & Village, where I’m part of a team of six: three Italians, two French teammates, and me. We all live together in a small apartment close to the hotel. You work together every single day and even after work we enjoy a drink together. My team truly feels like my family, and that means a lot to me.
Every morning we start at 10:00. Then I either run the kids club or lead activities like volleyball, aquagym, pilates, and our cocktail game. At 15:00 we continue with water polo (my favorite), darts, football, yoga, and table tennis. The evening program changes each day, and it’s honestly the part I enjoy the most.
Every Tuesday we perform a fire show on the beach — always impressive. On Thursdays we do a variety or Broadway-style show, and on Saturdays it’s comedy or cabaret night.
We also host karaoke and an 80’s disco. In short: there is never a dull moment.
What do I love most about this job?
You meet new people from all over the world and build real connections. Not only with your international team, but also with the guests. You bring people together, you help create unforgettable holidays, and that feels incredibly rewarding.
Once guests get to know you, they come to the shows to see you shine. Sometimes they want to stay in touch or they give you a small gift as a thank-you. This happens with both kids and adults. As an entertainer, you’re basically one of the hotel’s ambassadors, a bit of a celebrity on the resort — everyone knows you.
You also learn something new every single day. You learn how to work with children of different ages and languages, how to run a show, solve problems, be independent, motivate people, present confidently, teach different activities, and develop self-confidence.
And of course, you’re living on a completely new island. On your days off you go exploring. Sometimes our employer organizes parties for all entertainers on the island, so you get to meet other teams as well.
All I can say is: go for it. Everyone has tough days, but you’ll always have your Get Abroad team to rely on.
Greetings from Famke
